I am Karin Lundin: wedding photographer in Stockholm
I photograph weddings with a blend of documentary storytelling and clean, timeless aesthetics. For me, wedding photography is about more than creating beautiful images. It is about capturing the feeling of a day that will never come back.

My background is a combination of sociology and commercial photography, which has shaped how I see people and stories. I have a degree in sociological social analysis from Stockholm University and a degree in advertising and magazine publishing from Gamleby Photography School. My feeling for light and composition was developed through an internship with the fashion photographer Carl Bengtsson, and I have worked as a retoucher and studio manager at Wolfgang Kleinschmidt. My early years as a press photographer taught me to read situations quickly and capture moments that only last a second.
Over the years my work has been recognised in the industry, and I have received awards like Europe’s Best Wedding Photographer (Way Up North, 2020), Rising Star (Rangefinder, 2021) and a place on the list of Sweden’s top 5 wedding photographers (Wezoree, 2024). I am one of the photographers often recommended by Sweden’s leading wedding planners and have also had the honour of speaking at Way Up North, one of Europe’s largest conferences for wedding photographers.
I work closely with videographers to create a coherent visual experience for couples who want both stillness and movement in their wedding memories. My style is authentic and elegant, with a feeling for the subtle. I look for moments that feel natural and present. Images that not only show how things looked, but how they felt.

The history of Rånäs Slott
Rånäs Slott has a long and eventful history that stretches back to the 1300s. Through the centuries it has been a central place for influential families, dramatic events and architectural visions. Today the castle is an elegant wedding venue that combines historical charm with modern comforts.
From medieval estate to grand castle
Rånäs is first mentioned in historical sources in the 1300s, when the estate belonged to the Oxenstierna family. During the medieval period it was an important manor that changed hands several times, and the powerful Stenbock and Bielke families were part of its history.
The current castle building was constructed in 1833 by Gustaf Adolf Reuterskiöld, who had Rånäs Slott built in the empire style of the period. The castle was designed by the architect Per Axel Nyström, who also worked on the Royal Palace in Stockholm and other significant buildings. Rånäs became one of Sweden’s most impressive private castles, inspired by French classicism with grand façades, elegant colonnades and symmetrical forms.
The age of industrialisation and change
In the 1800s Rånäs Slott was not only a family residence but also a central part of the Swedish iron industry. Under Reuterskiöld’s leadership Rånäs had one of the country’s largest ironworks, where iron from Dannemora was delivered and refined. The estate grew and developed, but the decline of the iron industry at the end of the century also affected the castle’s economy.
Around the turn of the century in 1900 Rånäs Slott was transferred to state ownership and took on a new role. For a period it was used as a children’s home and care institution, a stark contrast to its earlier aristocratic prime.
From abandoned castle to luxurious destination
During the 1900s the castle was at times abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was not until the 1990s that Rånäs Slott was restored and brought back to its former grandeur. Today it is one of Sweden’s most private places for weddings, conferences and weekend stays, where history is still present in the well-preserved salons, original details and impressive surroundings.
With its history as a backdrop, Rånäs Slott has become a place where eras meet, from medieval estate and centre of industrialisation to today’s private destination for weddings and rest. A place where every visitor gets to share in the elegance and cultural heritage that has shaped the castle for nearly 700 years.

The Gallery is remarkable. For dinners up to 100 guests, the Gallery is the finest room – the window light does everything.
Tent if needed. Larger parties can use a tent on the grounds, but it changes the feel. Consider carefully.
The allée down to the lake. The best spot for portraits and a quiet moment together – especially in autumn.
Book early. Rånäs has limited weekend dates per season. Summer is often booked 12+ months in advance.
| Space | Capacity | Best for |
|---|---|---|

Key takeaways
- Start with guest count and weekend format. That decides which part of the venue suits you.
- Photographer and venue usually book at the same time, 12 to 18 months before peak summer.
- Own-drinks and catering policy vary by venue. Clear this up early in the quote process.
- A rain plan for outdoor ceremonies is almost always necessary in Nordic weather.
- Choose a photographer who has worked at the venue before. The difference shows in the gallery.

A photographer’s perspective on Rånäs
My name is Karin Lundin and I am a wedding photographer based in Stockholm. I have photographed multiple weddings at Rånäs Slott. The Gallery is the heart of Rånäs – the light that pours through its windows during dinner creates an atmosphere that photographs beautifully without any additional lighting.
The tree-lined allée leading down to the lake is my favourite spot for portraits, especially in autumn when the colours turn. My tip: if your group is under 100, insist on the Gallery for dinner. It is one of the most photogenic rooms I have worked in.
