The Mirror Hall: an elegant wedding venue

Spegelsalen, the Mirror Hall at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm, is one of the city’s most private and grand reception rooms, perfect for an elegant wedding. With its imposing crystal chandeliers, detailed stucco work and mirrored walls, it creates a sophisticated and romantic atmosphere that brings to mind royal banquets and historic balls.

A wedding at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm places your day in the heart of the city with the Swedish harbour, the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan as a single panoramic backdrop. Spegelsalen (the Mirror Hall) and Vinterträdgården (the Winter Garden) are the two main wedding rooms. Couples choose between them based on guest count, time of day and the atmosphere they want.

The Mirror Hall is one of the most private wedding venues in Stockholm and holds up to 500 guests for a standing reception or around 300 for a seated dinner. With its high ceilings, crystal chandeliers and gilded mirrors, the room creates a grand atmosphere that suits weddings with a larger guest list.

The Grand Hôtel as a wedding venue in Stockholm

Holding your wedding at the Grand Hôtel means gathering everyone you love in a well-organised setting where the ceremony, dinner and party can all happen in one place. With its waterfront position and walking distance to several of Stockholm’s most beautiful churches, it is a practical option for couples who want a smooth and considered day without moving from venue to venue.

What a wedding at the Grand Hôtel costs

A wedding at the Grand Hôtel is an investment, and for a guest list of 100 people the cost starts at around 300,000 SEK (roughly 27,000 EUR / 30,000 USD), depending on menu, drinks package, room and add-ons. The hotel offers a range of packages where food, drinks and service are included, but everything can be tailored to your wishes.
Many couples choose to include overnight stays and access to the Grand Hôtel’s spa in their booking, either for themselves or for their guests, to extend the experience into a full weekend. For those who want a more relaxed beginning or end to the celebration, a longer stay adds another dimension to a wedding at the Grand Hôtel.

Where you and your guests will sleep

The Grand Hôtel has a wide range of rooms and suites where the couple can stay in one of the more private suites, while guests can book standard rooms or deluxe options with a view over the water.

Couples who want a larger suite can choose The Princess Lilian Suite, with its view of the Royal Palace and a private dining room. For guests looking for alternatives, several nearby hotels offer the same level of service within walking distance: Lydmar Hotel, Bank Hotel and Hotel Diplomat.

Ceremony at the Grand Hôtel or nearby

Many couples choose to hold both their ceremony and wedding dinner at the Grand Hôtel, while others prefer a religious ceremony in one of the nearby churches before continuing the celebration at the hotel. Whether the ceremony is held on site or in a church close by, the Grand Hôtel makes it easy to keep the whole day in one place.

Ceremonies in nearby churches

For couples who want a religious ceremony, several beautiful options sit within walking distance of the Grand Hôtel:

Riddarholmen Church, a historic site connected to the Swedish royal family, on the small island opposite the Royal Palace.

Hedvig Eleonora Church (Östermalm), one of Stockholm’s most popular wedding churches, with a large and luminous interior.

Oscar’s Church (Östermalm), a larger church with plenty of room for a big guest list and a grand frame.

S:t Jacob’s Church (Norrmalm), beside Kungsträdgården, one of the most central churches in Stockholm.

Wedding dinner and reception at the Grand Hôtel

The Grand Hôtel offers several rooms for the wedding dinner, depending on your guest count and the atmosphere you want.

  • The Hall of Mirrors – One of the hotel’s most popular spaces for larger weddings.
  • The Winter Garden – Suits couples who want an airier setting with plants and natural light.

  • Private dining rooms
    – For smaller parties looking for a more intimate experience.

Menus are built around the season and your wishes, and the chefs offer both classic and modern dishes. Many couples choose a wine pairing to match the menu, but you can also build your own drinks list.

After dinner, the celebration can continue in one of the hotel’s reception rooms or in a private suite for a more relaxed end to the night. A wedding at the Grand Hôtel means everything from dinner to dancing can happen under the same roof, which keeps the logistics simple for both you and your guests.

In short

A photographer’s perspective on the Grand Hôtel

My name is Karin Lundin and I am a wedding photographer based in Stockholm. The Grand Hôtel is one of the most rewarding venues I work at. The light from the crystal chandeliers in the Hall of Mirrors creates a warm glow that makes evening photographs almost take themselves.

The Winter Garden offers something completely different – natural daylight, greenery, and a more intimate atmosphere. My tip: if your ceremony is in the Hall of Mirrors, step outside to Blasieholmen afterwards for portraits with the Royal Palace and the water behind you. The contrast between the grand interior and the open waterfront is remarkable.

A wedding at the Grand Hôtel suits couples who want a well-organised day where everything is gathered in one place. The hotel offers options for both large and small weddings, and ceremony, dinner and party can all be tailored to your wishes. With its central location in Stockholm and its proximity to both historic churches and modern reception rooms, it is one of the city’s most sought-after venues for couples who want a smooth and refined wedding day.

Wedding photographer Karin Lundin, timeless elegance in every frame

The Grand Hôtel is one of those places that simply breathes elegance. The high ceilings, the heavy crystal chandeliers, the soft light coming through the tall windows, together they create the perfect frame for wedding photographs that feel both timeless and luxurious.

I am Karin Lundin and I have been photographing weddings for over ten years, in Sweden and abroad. My style? Documentary, with a sense of cinematic elegance. I want to capture the day exactly as it is, the big moments, the small details and everything in between. Pictures that feel something, rather than just look pretty.

At the Grand Hôtel, the possibilities are endless. The Mirror Hall is a favourite, the mirrors and chandeliers create a light that makes the pictures feel alive. The suites have an intimate, calm quality that is perfect for the morning preparations. And the classic view over Strömmen? Hard to beat.

What matters most to me is that you can enjoy the day without thinking about the camera. I capture everything, so you can stay in the moment. If you want wedding pictures from the Grand Hôtel that feel private but also relaxed and genuine, get in touch and let’s see if we are a good match.

Wedding suppliers at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm

Working with the right team for a seamless wedding day

As a wedding photographer I know how much sits behind a perfect day, and a large part of it comes down to surrounding yourself with the right team. When all the suppliers work together seamlessly, from planning to the last dance, that is when the day becomes remarkable and effortless. It makes things easier for the couple, and it lets me focus completely on capturing the emotions and details the way they deserve.

When I work with suppliers like the ones below, I know every detail is in safe hands, which lets me do what I do best: capture your day with pictures that feel something. If you want a team around you that both elevates and simplifies your day, you are in good hands here.

Wedding planning with Mariella at Wedding Planner Stockholm

Mariella has an extraordinary instinct for both detail and logistics, her weddings are always beautifully thought through, but above all well organised. As a photographer it is invaluable to have a planner who understands light, flow and how to create a day where the couple can actually relax. When Mariella is in charge of the planning, I know everything will run smoothly, which means we can create those natural and emotional pictures without stress.

Floristkompaniet, flowers that lift the room

Floristkompaniet are masters at creating arrangements that elevate an entire setting. At the Grand Hôtel, where the architecture is already so grand, it is often about adding the right feeling rather than overworking it. They have a way of making decor feel natural, timeless and private at the same time, a dream to photograph. Flowers really shape the mood of a room, and with Floristkompaniet you can be sure every detail is considered and in perfect harmony with your day.

The bridal look with Mia Högfeldt, timeless and radiant makeup

Mia Högfeldt is one of the most experienced bridal makeup artists in Sweden, and she knows exactly how to create a look that lasts the whole day and into the night while still feeling natural and timeless. As a photographer I see the difference immediately when the makeup is right: the skin looks fresh in every light, and the bride feels both comfortable and radiant. Mia has a gift for bringing out each person’s unique features in a way that feels luxurious but never overworked, a true art form.

Wedding at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm

The Grand Hôtel Stockholm:
a short history

Since opening in 1874, the Grand Hôtel Stockholm has been a central part of the city’s history and culture. Set on Södra Blasieholmshamnen, the hotel offers a magnificent view of the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan.

The founding of the Grand Hôtel

The hotel was founded by the French hotelier Jean-François Régis Cadier and opened its doors on 14 June 1874. Cadier, who had lived in Sweden since 1852, wanted to create a hotel of international standard to meet the demand for luxurious accommodation in Stockholm. The architect Axel Kumlien was hired to design the building, and construction began in March 1872. After two years of work, the hotel was ready to welcome its first guests.

Early expansions

During its first decades, the Grand Hôtel went through several expansions. In 1889, the neighbouring Bolinder Palace was acquired and integrated into the hotel complex. Later, in 1909, the Grand Hôtel Royal was added, with the impressive Winter Garden, a flexible space still used today for major events and conferences.

A place for prominent guests

Since its opening, the Grand Hôtel has hosted countless celebrities, heads of state and Nobel laureates. The tradition of housing the Nobel Prize laureates began in 1901 and continues today. The hotel’s reputation for first-class service and elegance has made it the natural choice for dignitaries and well-known guests from around the world.

Breakfast and brunch

The Grand Hôtel is known for its outstanding food. Breakfast is served at Verandan with a panoramic view of the Royal Palace, where guests can enjoy an extensive buffet of both Swedish and international dishes. On weekends, brunch is also served at Grand Soleil, inspired by the flavours of the French and Italian Riviera, bringing a Mediterranean feel into the heart of Stockholm.

Afternoon tea in the Cadier Bar

The Cadier Bar, named after the hotel’s founder, serves a classic afternoon tea daily. Guests can enjoy a selection of sandwiches, pastries and scones, accompanied by carefully chosen teas or a glass of champagne. The tradition has become a beloved pause for both Stockholmers and visitors.

Relaxation at the Nordic Spa & Fitness

For anyone looking to unwind, the hotel offers the Nordic Spa & Fitness, an oasis inspired by the Nordic landscape. Guests can enjoy a range of treatments, pools and saunas, making it the perfect place to recover after the wedding.

The Winter Garden: a historic event space

The Winter Garden, opened in 1909, is one of the hotel’s most remarkable spaces. With its impressive architecture and flexible staging, it has hosted countless conferences, banquets and award ceremonies over the years. Its proximity to the Royal Reception Hall and terrace makes it ideal for grand events.

Key takeaways

Hall of Mirrors or Winter Garden. Two completely different feels. The Hall of Mirrors is classic and grand (up to 200 guests), the Winter Garden more intimate with natural light.

Ceremony on site. Grand Hôtel is licensed for civil ceremonies, so everything can happen under one roof.

The light from the water. Windows facing Strömmen and the Royal Palace give a light that shifts throughout the day. In the evening, the city lights reflect in the water.

The price point. This is Stockholm’s most private hotel wedding. Expect the food and drinks to be the largest cost.

Want to capture the day on film as well? I often work alongside Nordvér Films, who create cinematic wedding films with the same feeling for light and moments.

Key takeaways

  • Start with guest count and weekend format. That decides which part of the venue suits you.
  • Photographer and venue usually book at the same time, 12 to 18 months before peak summer.
  • Own-drinks and catering policy vary by venue. Clear this up early in the quote process.
  • A rain plan for outdoor ceremonies is almost always necessary in Nordic weather.
  • Choose a photographer who has worked at the venue before. The difference shows in the gallery.
