A big part of the experience at a Häringe wedding is the food. The castle restaurant is known for its quality and seasonal menus. Whether you choose a classic three-course dinner in one of the beautiful halls, or want to create something more personal with the kitchen, the experience can be tailored to you. This is a place where the flavours can really reflect who you are as a couple.

For those who want to extend the celebration, brunch or lunch is often served the day after, something that has become popular among couples who want to gather their guests for a calm wind-down before everyone heads home. The shared brunch is often held in the orangery surrounded by nature, or on the terrace if the weather allows.

Rooms and accommodation for the whole wedding party

Häringe Slott has plenty of rooms for the couple and the guests. The rooms are furnished with care and a feeling for both the historical and the comfortable. From grand suites to smaller rooms in the wing, every guest has the chance to stay over and really take part in the whole experience, without having to think about transport or the journey home.

That is what makes a wedding at Häringe often a whole weekend rather than just an evening. Many choose to gather their nearest the day before for dinner or a smaller mingle. Waking up together in this beautiful setting brings a calm and presence that deepens the day itself.

The restaurant: a key part of the experience

A photographer’s perspective on Häringe

My name is Karin Lundin and I am a wedding photographer based in Stockholm. I have photographed several weddings at Häringe Slott. What makes Häringe special from a photographic standpoint is the pool area – it creates a completely different kind of evening image than most castles offer. When the sun sets, the light reflects in the water and the atmosphere feels more Mediterranean than Swedish.

The dining room has warm candlelight and crystal chandeliers, which gives the dinner photographs a cinematic quality without extra lighting. My tip: plan your portraits along the allée towards the lake, ideally half an hour before sunset. That is where the best light on the entire property is.

The Häringe restaurant is open year round and draws plenty of guests who are not getting married. But during a wedding you have access to it in a different way. The chefs have great experience with celebration meals and offer both classic menus and modern takes. The focus is on Swedish seasonal ingredients, and there is good flexibility for allergies and preferences.

It is also possible to combine food and drink with personal choices, like serving a particular dish that has a connection to you, or pouring a specific wine that means something to you as a couple.

The flow of the day, ceremony and celebration in one place

Having both the ceremony and the wedding celebration at Häringe Slott creates a natural flow through the whole day. You skip transfers and can focus on being present with your guests. The settings around the castle make it easy to find a place that feels right for you.

The Rotunda, a beloved choice for the ceremony

The most popular spot for the ceremony is the Rotunda, beautifully placed in the garden surrounded by greenery. The round shape and open space create a natural frame without taking over, and the ceremony feels both airy and intimate. It is a place that holds a lot of mood on its own, but it is also easy to shape with flowers, chairs or decorations if you want to add your own character.

The Apple Grove and the Allée

The Apple Grove is another loved choice, especially in late summer or early autumn when the trees are full and the air is mild. Here you get a more secluded feeling, and the neighbouring allée with its stone statues creates an expression that feels grand yet relaxed. Many couples choose to do their portrait session here too, since the light is often soft and the setting timeless.

Indoor ceremonies in the salons

For winter weddings, or when the weather is uncertain, the ceremony is usually held in one of the castle’s salons. The period rooms with chandeliers, fireplaces and heavy textiles create a warm and elegant frame, especially as dusk falls.

After the ceremony, the guests move on to drinks and dinner, often with a natural pause for mingling. The wedding dinner is held in one of the larger halls, with room for a seated dinner, speeches and dancing. And because so many choose to stay overnight at the castle, the mood is often relaxed, a celebration that gets to live on far into the night without interruption.

Preparations in the bridal suite and your own floor

As the couple, you have access to one of the castle’s suites from 3pm the day before the wedding. The suites are in the white stone houses near the main building, furnished with Hästens beds, private bathrooms and a quiet, private atmosphere. Here you can prepare in calm, get ready, and land together before the day begins. In the evening you return to the same place to close the day in privacy and closeness.

Group photo in the allée or in front of the castle entrance

After the ceremony it is common to gather everyone for a group photo. The long allée with its characteristic stone statues is a recurring favourite, grand yet personal. Others choose to take the photo in front of the castle steps or in the garden, depending on weather, light and season.

Wedding dinner indoors or outdoors in the Rotunda

The wedding dinner is usually served in the large dining hall with room for up to 85 guests. For groups between 85 and 140 guests the Kreuger wing is used. There is also the option of setting the table outside in the Rotunda, if the weather allows. The Rotunda is surrounded by greenery and gives an atmospheric, airy feeling with the sky as the ceiling.

The castle’s wedding package includes a three-course menu, the toast, a wine pairing, coffee and a table set with white linen and porcelain. The menu is built on seasonal ingredients and is presented during a dedicated menu and wine tasting for the couple before the wedding.

Dance and celebration in the castle halls

After dinner the celebration can continue in the castle’s party floor or another hall depending on the number of guests and the weather. There is room for dancing, DJ, live music and bar. The closeness of the hotel rooms makes it easy for guests to move between celebration and rest without leaving the area.

Staying overnight at the castle.

Häringe Slott has 68 hotel rooms across several buildings, with around 138 beds in total. The standard rooms are in the Vasa wing and the Wennergren pavilion, about 200 metres from the main building, while the deluxe rooms and suites are in the stone houses right next to it. All rooms have Hästens beds, bathrooms with shower or bath, and access to the whole estate. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 1pm.

Brunch the day after, a calm closing

After a long and full wedding day, many couples enjoy closing the weekend together with a shared brunch. At Häringe Slott you can book brunch the day after the wedding, served in one of the halls or outside if the weather allows. It is a quiet and appreciated ending, where everyone can gather, talk about the night before and say goodbye in calm.

Pool party with relaxed energy

Once the wedding day is over and the celebration has settled, there is something special about meeting again, but in a new way. At Häringe Slott there is a natural place for it, namely the pool area. Here you can create a calm afterday with music in the background, swimwear instead of formalwear, and time to just be. Guests settle into sun loungers, dip their feet, take a swim, or hang in the shade with something cold in hand. It does not need to be planned or directed. It just gets to be.

I am Karin Lundin, wedding photographer in Stockholm

I photograph weddings with a blend of documentary storytelling and clean, timeless aesthetics. For me, wedding photography is about more than creating beautiful images. It is about capturing the feeling of a day that will never come back.

About me

My background is a combination of sociology and commercial photography, which has shaped how I see people and stories. I have a degree in sociological social analysis from Stockholm University and a degree in advertising and magazine publishing from Gamleby Photography School. My feeling for light and composition was developed through an internship with the fashion photographer Carl Bengtsson, and I have worked as a retoucher and studio manager at Wolfgang Kleinschmidt. My early years as a press photographer taught me to read situations quickly and capture moments that only last a second.

RECOGNITION

Over the years my work has been recognised in the industry, and I have received awards like Europe’s Best Wedding Photographer (Way Up North, 2020), Rising Star (Rangefinder, 2021) and a place on the list of Sweden’s top 5 wedding photographers (Wezoree, 2024). I am one of the photographers often recommended by Sweden’s leading wedding planners and have also had the honour of speaking at Way Up North, one of Europe’s largest conferences for wedding photographers.

Video

I work closely with videographers to create a coherent visual experience for couples who want both stillness and movement in their wedding memories. My style is authentic and elegant, with a feeling for the subtle. I look for moments that feel natural and present. Images that not only show how things looked, but how they felt.

THE HISTORY OF HÄRINGE SLOTT

Häringe Slott has a rich and many-layered history that stretches across millennia. From the Viking age to today’s hotel and conference operation, the castle has been a central place for power, culture and innovation.

From Viking age to medieval times

The history of the Häringe peninsula begins around the year 1000, when the Viking Sote is said to have claimed the area. The first written mention of Häringe is dated to 1278, when King Magnus Ladulås donated land on Muskö, opposite Häringe, to the bishopric of Strängnäs.

The Great Power era and its changes

During the 1500s Häringe became part of the estates of Gustav Vasa. In the 1650s Count Gustav Horn had the present main building constructed, which was completed in 1657. After Horn’s death the castle was inherited by his daughter Agneta Horn, one of several strong women who came to govern Häringe through the centuries.

A pool with history

Häringe Slott is not only beautiful, it also carries unique details that bring a playful character to the whole experience. One of the most well-known features is the outdoor pool, built already in the 1930s by the then-owner Torsten Kreuger. The pool was Sweden’s first with Olympic dimensions and was equipped with a slide directly from the second floor of the castle, something that still brings both wonder and smiles to today’s guests.

Modernisations of the 1900s and famous owners

In the 1930s the castle underwent extensive renovations led by the matchstick magnate Torsten Kreuger. He installed Sweden’s first outdoor pool of Olympic dimensions, complete with a slide from the second floor, and built an underground tunnel between one of the wings and the main building. When Kreuger was later charged with embezzlement he sold the castle to his acquaintance Axel Wenner-Gren, the founder of Electrolux.

Current owners and operation

Since 1 April 2017 Häringe Slott has been owned by Vesko Mijac, who runs the hotel and conference operation on site.

Through the centuries Häringe Slott has been a place of decadence, scandal, glamour and celebration. Today the castle welcomes guests from near and far to share in its rich history and unique atmosphere.

Key takeaways

  • Start with guest count and weekend format. That decides which part of the venue suits you.
  • Photographer and venue usually book at the same time, 12 to 18 months before peak summer.
  • Own-drinks and catering policy vary by venue. Clear this up early in the quote process.
  • A rain plan for outdoor ceremonies is almost always necessary in Nordic weather.
  • Choose a photographer who has worked at the venue before. The difference shows in the gallery.
