The view is unmatched. From the hilltop at Högberga you see the entire archipelago. No other wedding venue in Stockholm offers this panorama.
The boat ride is part of the experience. Guests take the boat from Strömkajen – it builds anticipation and sets the tone for the whole day.
Max around 140 guests. Högberga is not for the very largest weddings, but that is part of the charm.
Weather matters. With an outdoor ceremony and terrace, summer is best. Always have a backup plan for rain.

Wedding photography at Högberga Gård
As a wedding photographer I have shot several Högberga Gård weddings, and I can say that the place offers wonderful light conditions throughout the day. The soft light reflected off the water creates a natural and warm feeling in the images, especially during the golden hour on the terrace. The garden, the old stone wall and the view towards Fjäderholmarna give varied and beautiful backdrops without you having to leave the area.
I usually recommend that we do the portrait session during the cocktail hour, when the afternoon light falls beautifully over Lidingö. If you are planning your wedding at Högberga Gård and want a photographer who knows the place well, I am happy to tell you more about how I work and which times of year give the best light for wedding photography.

What sets Högberga Gård apart from other archipelago venues
Högberga sits higher than almost any other wedding venue in the Stockholm archipelago. The elevation is what makes the venue photogenic in a way most archipelago hotels are not. You see the water on three sides, the sun sets over open sea, and the terrace offers the kind of sweeping view that anchors the wedding album. Most other archipelago venues sit at water level, which is beautiful in its own way but does not give the same panoramic feel.
The other difference is the scale. Högberga holds up to 140 guests, which is large enough for a generous wedding but small enough that you are never in overflow rooms with strangers. The staff know which couple is which, the kitchen adjusts to your menu choices, and the rhythm of the day feels personal rather than institutional. That is rare at venues of this size.
Seasonally, Högberga is strongest between May and early October. Outdoor ceremonies in the garden work from May onwards, the terrace dinner is best in July and August when the evenings stay warm until 22:00, and September brings the strongest afternoon light. Winter weddings happen here too, but the outdoor views lose some of their effect once the trees bare.
Getting to Högberga from central Stockholm
Högberga is a 30-minute drive from central Stockholm via Lidingöbron, or 45 minutes by bus plus short walk. For wedding guests arriving from abroad, the venue can arrange a transfer bus from a central Stockholm hotel. Most couples book a transfer bus for guests arriving before the ceremony and a return bus at a set time late evening, which handles the logistics cleanly without anyone needing to coordinate taxis in the dark.
Guests who want to stay overnight have a few options. Högberga itself has rooms for 30 or so overnight guests. Smaller hotels on Lidingö take the overflow. Central Stockholm hotels are 30 minutes away and handle the larger guest parties that do not want to stay on the island. Most couples split their guest list between on-site rooms for family and off-site hotels for friends and colleagues.
| Space | Capacity | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Main dining room | Up to 140 seated | Seated dinner with panoramic view |
| Terrace | Up to 120 | Summer ceremonies and cocktails |
| Garden | Up to 150 | Outdoor ceremonies |

Photography windows at Högberga
Because Högberga sits on a cliff with west-facing views, the afternoon and evening light is uniquely strong here. In June and July, the sun sets behind the archipelago around 22:00, which gives a long golden hour that starts around 20:30. For portraits, this window is unbeatable. I plan couple portraits to start 30 to 40 minutes before sunset, which lets us use the terrace, the garden and a short walk along the cliff edge in a single sequence of photographs. For couples who love the atmospheric light, scheduling the ceremony around 17:00 to 18:00 in summer gives enough time for the family photos before the light turns truly golden for the portraits. Winter weddings have a very different rhythm: early sunset means the indoor dining room becomes the photography backdrop for most of the evening.
Key takeaways
- Start with guest count and weekend format. That decides which part of the venue suits you.
- Photographer and venue usually book at the same time, 12 to 18 months before peak summer.
- Own-drinks and catering policy vary by venue. Clear this up early in the quote process.
- A rain plan for outdoor ceremonies is almost always necessary in Nordic weather.
- Choose a photographer who has worked at the venue before. The difference shows in the gallery.

A photographer’s perspective on Högberga Gård
My name is Karin Lundin and I am a wedding photographer based in Stockholm. I have photographed weddings at Högberga Gård. What makes Högberga unique is the elevation – from the terrace you see the entire archipelago in one sweep, and the light up there is something special. In summer it stays light for a long time, and the sunsets over the water produce images that look almost impossible.
The boat ride from Strömkajen is also part of the story – the anticipation builds the whole way. My tip: take portraits at the cliff edge with the sea behind you, ideally just before dinner when the light is at its warmest.
Högberga Gård can host weddings of different sizes, from intimate celebrations to larger ones. Contact the venue directly for current capacity details.
Want to capture the day on film as well? I often work alongside Nordvér Films, who create cinematic wedding films with the same feeling for light and moments.
Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Högberga Gård?
Yes, Högberga Gård offers beautiful outdoor settings for the ceremony with greenery and a water view as a backdrop. In bad weather there are indoor alternatives.
