A wedding at Vår Gård suits couples who want the sea and a hundred years of cultural history without leaving the Stockholm region. Kooperativa förbundet bought the land in 1924 for its training college, and today Vår Gård runs year-round as a hotel and conference centre. Vår Gård as a wedding venue

Vår Gård is an area with several buildings, and the choice of room shapes the feeling of the wedding in a significant way. The largest function hall is called Isaac, and the wedding package there covers 70 to 220 guests. Isaac measures 197 square metres, with panoramic windows toward the sea and a stage. This is the hall to pick if you want a wedding with many guests, a long dinner and plenty of dancing afterwards.

For smaller and more private weddings, there is Villa Skärtofta, built in 1897 for the industrialist John Bernström and located a short walk from the main building and booked separately. Skärtofta suits couples who want something calmer, more intimate and more home-like, typically with fewer guests, a longer dinner and the option to move between several smaller rooms. The villa takes up to 50 wedding guests.

Ceremony, mingling and dinner can be spread across the park, the art rooms and Isaac. Ask the venue about current floor plans when you enquire, and focus your own time on the party, the ceremony and how you want the evening to feel.

On vargard.se in October 2026 the wedding package in Isaac starts at 2,495 SEK per person and the Villa Skärtofta package at 3,495 SEK per person. The final quote depends on guest count and menu. Getting to Vår Gård

Vår Gård sits in Saltsjöbaden, about 20 minutes by car from central Stockholm when traffic is normal. Parking is available on site. For guests without a car, buses run from Slussen toward Saltsjöbaden in about 40 minutes and stop at Saltsjöbaden station, about 200 metres from the main entrance. The Saltsjöbanan railway does not run all the way to Slussen while the Slussen area is rebuilt. Timetables are on the SL website.

Accommodation at Vår Gård

Vår Gård runs its own hotel on the grounds with 128 rooms and 162 beds, and it carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Book rooms early, since summer weekends by the sea fill up. When you reserve the wedding date, ask immediately about a room block. Once the wedding is confirmed, Vår Gård sends a personal code that gives wedding guests 20 percent off rooms, breakfast included.

For guests who want alternatives, several smaller hotels and guesthouses in Saltsjöbaden can be booked independently. Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden sits a short walk away and is a more formal option. Booking by the sea in summer is always tight, so plan early.

A typical wedding day at Vår Gård

The timeline is a suggestion. Many couples pull the dinner earlier to get more time for dancing; others prefer a long afternoon with mingling before the ceremony. What matters most is leaving enough time between each moment so the photography, the guests and the speeches can breathe.

A photographer’s perspective on Vår Gård

My name is Karin Lundin and I am a wedding photographer based in Stockholm. I photograph weddings as documentary. That means I move quietly through the room, read the energy and capture what actually happens without staging it. The result is photographs that feel real.

Vår Gård has a particular light, shaped by the sea and the tall windows toward Baggensfjärden. Mornings are often silver and a bit cold, middays go flat and high, and the afternoon softens into gold. Summer evenings run long, with pink light through the park until close to 10pm in July. I plan the portrait session around how the light moves. The park by the water works best in the late afternoon. The interior, especially Isaac with its tall windows, works at any hour of the day. The art rooms hold their own soft light, which suits quiet pictures.

I work with both colour and black-and-white in the same gallery. Black-and-white works well at Vår Gård because the architecture, the park and the sea all carry strong shapes and contrasts. Colour carries the art collection, the blue of the fjord and the greens of the park. My approach comes down to what I choose to see, from the art rooms to the shore of Baggensfjärden.

Several details come up late in planning and can make the weekend better if addressed early. Wind from Baggensfjärden can pick up quickly even on sunny summer afternoons, so plan the outdoor ceremony spot with wind direction in mind, and build in a tent or an indoor alternative you can switch to in 15 minutes. The hotel team knows which spots shelter best on different days.

The art collection is easy to overlook in the planning. Walk through the rooms with the coordinator before the wedding and mark the works that matter to you. Some paintings are in rooms that may be used for mingling or breaks, and a few minutes of planning ensures they end up in the photographs.

Light from the tall windows in Isaac changes character rapidly through the dinner. In June and July the light stays bright long into the evening, and the sun sets in Stockholm around 22:00 at midsummer and around 21:30 at the end of July. If speeches matter visually, try to place the most important ones later in the evening, when the light through the windows softens. Ask Vår Gård whether the dinner timing can shift to match.
