Norway Bergen Wedding

Bergen

Daniel and DiDi celebrated their intimate wedding at Hotel Ullensvang along the Hardangerfjord, just outside Bergen. He grew up in Norway before moving to Washington DC, where he met DiDi, who carries her own rich story from Myanmar. When their families came together at the fjord that day, it was the first time two very different worlds met in one place. You could feel the weight and the joy of that.

The weather outside Bergen is unpredictable, and their wedding day was no exception. Sun and rain kept shifting all afternoon, and just before the ceremony was about to begin, the sky opened up. Guests had to leave their seats and take shelter, waiting for the rain to pass. And then it did. Everyone came back, sat down again, and the ceremony began with that particular energy that only comes after a moment of chaos.

Those are the things I remember most from a wedding. Not the perfectly planned details, but the real ones. The pause before it all starts, the look between two people who have come a long way to stand here. The Norwegian fjords give you a backdrop that already feels larger than life, but it is always the people and their stories that make a wedding worth photographing.

If you are planning an intimate wedding or elopement in Norway, I would love to hear about it. I photograph weddings across Scandinavia and Europe, and I am drawn to the kind of celebrations where the setting matters, but the people matter more.
